Justine Doiron deserves the credit for putting butter boards on the map. Her viral video where she demonstrates how to put together a butter board received millions of views and led to many copycats, but it turns out that Doiron isn’t the originator of this viral food craze.

Joshua McFadden came up with butter boards long before they took TikTok and Instagram by storm. He was looking for a way to present bread and butter in a more fun way while hosting farm dinner parties a few years back, and butter boards were what he came up with.
You can easily make a butter board from the comfort of your home, and it all starts with spreading some softened butter on a board, with toasted bread on the side. The sky is the limit when it comes to toppings that you’re going to use, but most foodies on TikTok go with herbs, edible flowers, garlic, tomatoes, and even figs.
