What is Coffee Tonic? And How to Make It

Ingredients:

  • 1 shot of espresso or 4 oz of strong cold-brew coffee
  • 4 ounces tonic water
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: syrup (like vanilla) for sweetness
  • Optional: a slice of lemon or orange peel for garnish

Instructions:

  1. If using espresso, brew a shot using your espresso machine. For a smoother alternative, prepare a batch of cold brew coffee in advance. Cold brew works particularly well with tonic water because of its mild and sweet characteristics.
  2. Fill a tall glass with ice cubes to the top. Pour the cooled espresso or cold brew over the ice.
  3. Slowly add the tonic water. Pouring it slowly helps to maintain its fizz and creates a beautiful layered effect in the glass.
  4. If you prefer a sweeter drink, stir in a small amount of syrup. Start with a teaspoon, taste, and add more if desired.
  5. Twist a slice of lemon or orange peel over the glass, then drop it in as a garnish.
