Wearing makeup is one of those rights of passage moments that any girl can’t wait to experience. Girls start wearing makeup typically between their middle school and high school years. The ages of makeup experimentation does vary, though, and some girls start experimenting with makeup much earlier or much later than their peers.
Regardless of your age, it is important to understand what makeup looks are appropriate for which occasions. Here are some guidelines of appropriate makeup looks for any age and any occasion.
Middle school- sophomore in high school
Have you just started wearing makeup? Maybe the first brands you’ve tried were the ones sitting on your mom’s dresser. Or, maybe your friend who started wearing makeup a bit earlier has let you try her out.
When putting on makeup for the first time, people are very likely to go overboard. This can be seen with a bunch of younger girls heavily masking their eyelids and water lines in black ink. If you are just starting to wear makeup, start with purchasing a brown eyeliner pencil and some mascara. Skip the highlighters, eyebrow contouring kits, and fake lashes for later.
Junior in high school- freshman college
Now is the time to get a little more risky when experimenting with your makeup look. Again, you don’t want to make anything too dark, but you definitely want to start enhancing your features instead of just going for a very natural look.
Now would be a good time to find a foundation that you love and an eyeshadow palette that you can use for different occasions.
Sophomore in college and beyond
Now is the time to really find your own style and experiment with new looks. Try a nude or bold lip color, use sparkly eyeliner and perfect your cat eye.
Really, makeup is a form of self-expression and as you grow into yourself as an adult, you can find ways to have makeup reflect your style.
