Mindfulness is now recognized by many as a great way to look after our mental health and wellbeing. Being present may sound obvious and simple, but in reality, this is something many people struggle with. Here are a few small ways to try to be more mindful during your day.
Meditate in the Morning
This may sound intense, but this can simply mean just sitting and focusing on breathing for a few minutes. This helps you be more aware of your body sensations and your mental space. Starting your day in this way can help you tap into this present awareness during the rest of the day.
Count 5 Senses
You can do this whenever you think of it. Simply identify something for each of the main 5 senses (sight, smell, sound, taste, feeling) that you are currently experiencing. Listing these five senses is a great practice to stop and take in your surroundings.
Summarize Your Day
Simply writing a few lines in the evening can really help you be more aware and present. Reflecting on your day helps you keep track of your activities and emotions during the day, and once this becomes a habit it will allow you to be more in tune with these things in the moment.
