If you’re a coffee lover, you’re likely producing a fair amount of coffee grounds on a daily basis. Instead of tossing them into the trash, why not put them to good use? Coffee grounds are surprisingly versatile and can be repurposed in many creative and useful ways around your home. From gardening to cleaning and even personal care, here’s how you can turn your morning brew’s byproduct into a valuable resource.

Natural Fertilizer

Coffee grounds are rich in nitrogen, making them a fantastic addition to your garden soil. Sprinkle used coffee grounds around your plants to add nutrients back into the soil. They especially benefit acid-loving plants like azaleas, hydrangeas, and rhododendrons.

Natural Deodorizer

Coffee grounds can absorb and eliminate odors due to their nitrogen content, which removes sulfur from the air. Place a bowl of dried coffee grounds in your refrigerator or freezer to neutralize odors from spoiled or fragrant foods.

Exfoliating Skin Scrub

Coffee grounds are an excellent exfoliant and can be used to make a homemade skin scrub. Their texture helps to remove dead skin cells, leaving your skin smooth and rejuvenated. Mix coffee grounds with a bit of coconut oil or your favorite gentle cleanser and use it as a natural face or body scrub.

In the quest for a healthier lifestyle, more and more people are turning to homemade alternatives to store-bought products. Making your own deodorant is a great way to avoid harsh chemicals and fragrances while still keeping fresh throughout the day. Plus, it’s surprisingly simple and cost-effective. Here’s how you can create your own natural deodorant at home.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup of coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup of baking soda
  • 1/4 cup of cornstarch or arrowroot powder
  • 10-15 drops of your chosen essential oils

Instructions:

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, mix the baking soda and cornstarch or arrowroot powder until well combined.
  2. If your coconut oil is solid, gently melt it in the microwave or on a stovetop until it’s just liquefied but not hot.
  3. Pour the melted coconut oil over the dry ingredients. Stir the mixture until it forms a smooth paste.
  4. Now, add your essential oils to the mixture.
  5. Scoop your deodorant into an old deodorant stick container or a small jar. If using a jar, you can apply the deodorant with your fingers.
  6. Place your deodorant in the refrigerator for a few hours to set. Once it’s firm, it’s ready to use! Keep in mind that if your home is warm, the coconut oil may soften.

Throwing a birthday party at home can be just as exciting as going out. With a few small tricks, you can easily transform a familiar space into a magical setting for celebration. Here are some ideas that will work great, whether you’re planning a party for a child, a teen, or an adult.

Create a Balloon Wonderland

Balloons are synonymous with parties. Consider a balloon arch over the entrance, balloon bouquets as centerpieces, or even a balloon drop for a dramatic moment.

DIY Photo Booth

Set up a DIY photo booth in a corner of the room with a fun backdrop and a box of props. Use fabric, streamers, or a themed poster as the backdrop. For props, think funny hats, glasses, mustaches on sticks, or anything that fits your party theme.

Streamer Surprise

Streamers are an affordable way to add lots of colors and textures to your party space. Hang them from the ceiling, twist them along staircases, or create a streamer curtain for doorways.

Table Setting and Centerpieces

A beautifully set table can be a decoration in its own right. Use tablecloths, runners, and napkins that align with your theme. For centerpieces, consider floral arrangements, themed figurines, or candles surrounded by confetti.

Ever thought about turning your backyard into the hottest dining spot in town? No, we’re not talking about barbecues for your friends—we mean a first-class birdfeeder for our feathered buddies. So let’s roll up our sleeves and get into how you can whip up a cozy little diner for the birds.

Materials You’ll Need:

  • A clean, empty plastic bottle, milk carton, or tin can
  • Scissors or a craft knife
  • Two wooden spoons or small dowels
  • String or wire for hanging
  • Birdseed mix suitable for your local bird species
  • Optional: paint or markers for decoration

Instructions:

  1. A plastic bottle or a milk carton works well for a basic feeder. If you’re using a bottle or carton, cut or drill holes large enough for a bird to access the seeds, but small enough to keep the seeds contained. You’ll want these about two inches from the bottom.
  2. Make holes just below the seed openings to insert the wooden spoons or dowels. These will be perchers for the bird.
  3. Securely attach a string or wire for hanging.
  4. Decorate your feeder for visual appeal.
  5. Fill it with birdseed and hang it in a spot ideal for birdwatching.
  6. Remember to regularly clean and refill your feeder and enjoy!

Upcycling is not only great for the environment, but also a trendy and fun way to keep your favorite clothes in use. So if your most-worn pair of jeans has a hole, don’t be too quick to dismiss them. There are several ways you can reuse the fabric. Here are three ideas we love.

Trendy Denim Bag

Transform your old jeans into a chic and durable denim bag. Cut out sections of the jeans, repurpose pockets, and sew them together to create a unique tote. It will be a one-of-a-kind creation to make you proud.

Patchwork Quilt or Throw

Give your worn-out jeans a cozy makeover by turning them into a patchwork quilt or throw. Cut the denim into squares or different shapes, mix and match with other fabrics if you want, and sew them together to create a cozy and rustic quilt. It’s a great and practical way to preserve memories.

Denim Wall Art

Channel your inner artist by creating unique denim wall art. Cut the jeans into different shapes or patterns, arrange them on a canvas or wooden frame, and create a unique piece of art. You can combine denim with other materials like wood or paint for a mixed-media masterpiece.

Consider the following romantic idea for this year’s Valentine’s Day: go old-school. Instead of sending yet another GIF of Fez from That 70’s Show drawing a heart in the air, embrace a more personal touch by reviving handwritten love letters. Those things you get by putting pen to paper and connecting with your feelings, remember? In a digital world, it can be just the analog touch your heart needs.

Where Do You Start?

Grab a stylish notebook or some fancy stationery to make your message pop. Now, think of a cool spot to leave your love note. Sneak it into your significant other’s backpack, tuck it into their favorite book, or slip it into their laptop bag.

If your partner is up for it, another fun option can be turning the whole thing into a DIY Valentine’s Day date. Light some candles, play romantic tunes, and spend a cozy night indoors writing love notes to each other. It’s a nostalgic throwback to the pre-digital era with a modern twist.

When it comes to improving at a craft, there are often plenty of peaks and valleys that occur. When you’re first starting out, you may suck completely at whatever it is. However, with enough hard work, you’ll reach a breakthrough where you begin to exhibit considerable skill in the craft. Eventually, though, you’ll start to “plateau”, where you find yourself pretty good, but not as good as you’d like. Here’s how to take that next step.

Tackling Discomfort

Here’s why it’s so easy for craftspeople to plateau in their work. Once you get into a routine, you establish a comfort zone of sorts, where it becomes really easy to practice the very thing you’re most comfortable at. This will be something you love most about the work. Eventually, though, you’re so good at that one thing, that it feels like there’s no where else for you to improve.

However, this is false, because there are plenty of areas for you to improve: the very areas you’ve been avoiding because of how uncomfortable they look. The only way for you to improve now is to tackle those uncomfortable spots and find ways to fall in love with them. Eventually, you’ll begin to create your new “obsession”, where this becomes the thing you practice every day.

If you work as hard as you can on practicing the things you’re less good at, you’ll be that much more of a master at your craft in no time!

Most people head to hobby stores when looking for materials for their next DIY project, but did you know you can find many hidden gems at your favorite thrift store? Thrift shopping for DIY projects is an amazing, eco-friendly solution – as long as you avoid making these common mistakes.

Impulse Purchases

Impulse purchases are the biggest enemy of every thrift store adventure. Just because something is cheap, it doesn’t necessarily mean you can use it, so carefully access the functionality of every item you want to buy.

No Budget

Thrift store items aren’t extremely pricey, but expenses can pile up. Have a budget in mind and don’t go over it because you’ll end up wasting money on your DIY project instead of saving it.

Speeding Things Up

Patience is crucial when it comes to thrift shopping for DIY projects. Don’t rush things because you’ll overlook many amazing things that could guide you through your next DIY adventure.

No Clear Plan

Liking a certain thrift store find isn’t a reason enough to buy it. You should have a clear plan in mind on how you can upcycle every item before spending any money.

Neglecting Quality

Not all thrift store items are in such great shape, and it’s tough to salvage some of them. Assess the quality of the items you intend to repurpose to make sure they don’t show signs of heavy damage.
